Empathy for Lived Experiences


“How can I help?” is the question for Sameer Hossain, who began his career at State in the Office of International Religious Freedom and has since moved to a similar domestic role at Homeland Security. Traveling to Rohingya refugee camps or visiting the Dalai Lama, he knows that you can’t learn what you need to advise lawmakers by sitting in an office in Washington. And it helps: If the US government doesn’t say something about the world’s atrocities, things often get much worse.
